can i put live plants in a tank with an oscar fish?

How are you supposed to see the stripes on a white female betta?

I have a white female betta and I was wondering how are you supposed to see if she is stessed or ready to breed if you can’t see her stripes. I know how to tell both of those things from other symptons but I would still like to to able to tell with the stripes to be sure.
