I’d like to put together a gift basket filled with toiletries, spa supplies, and other things. How do I package the gift basket properly so that I don’t have things falling out of the basket and moving around when it’s shipped to its destination?

How can I dull down a glossy painted finish on a chest of drawers?

My mom gave me an old chest of drawers painted a high gloss black (it almost looks like a piano). The paint is in perfect shape–do anyone know a way I can dull down the gloss without stripping the dresser? I would prefer an older, rubbed black finish but any suggestions that will remove some of the sheen would be appreciated.

Why does my package of Porter-Cable galvanized finishing nails say not to use them outside?

Filed under: Do It Yourself (DIY) — Tags: , , — admin @ 7:10 am
Don P asked:

I bought Porter-Cable galvanized, 15 ga. finishing nails to use in laying deck boards (5/4″ cedar). When I began I noticed the package says “Not for outdoor use - For interior only.” What’s up with that? I thought galvanized nails were exactly what you wanted for outdoor work.

Any ideas about WHY it says not to use them outdoors, and more important, do you think it would be OK to use them for this purpose despite what the package says?

Thanks!

How do you dull the shine or deluster satin brocade fabric?

brooklynbauhaus asked:

I bought several lanterns that are covered in a bright satin brocade. However, they are a little too bright in color and shiny for my home decor so I would like to know if anyone knows of a technique to dull the shine of the brocade a little. Maybe there is a stain to use to make them look a bit more aged or antique? Maybe I should just paint a wash on them?
