My mom gave me an old chest of drawers painted a high gloss black (it almost looks like a piano). The paint is in perfect shape–do anyone know a way I can dull down the gloss without stripping the dresser? I would prefer an older, rubbed black finish but any suggestions that will remove some of the sheen would be appreciated.

ok i know this sounds stupid ,but i was in a hurry one day and put a towel on my dinning room table to run the iron over my husbands shirt ,and afterwords i found 2 big dull spots in our oak table . i learned my lesson but now how can i fix them without having to use stain?

we had beautiful marble counter tops and I used those Clorax cdisinfectant wipes on them. They turned dull and really flat looking, what can I do to fix this. Its like I ruined the gloss on them?

I bought several lanterns that are covered in a bright satin brocade. However, they are a little too bright in color and shiny for my home decor so I would like to know if anyone knows of a technique to dull the shine of the brocade a little. Maybe there is a stain to use to make them look a bit more aged or antique? Maybe I should just paint a wash on them?
