We always hear about UAW negotiations with the Big Three American car makers, but we never hear about their negotiations with Toyota, or Honda, etc. If the UAW is not in the US plants of foreign car companies, is that fair? Shouldn’t the foreign companies have to play by the same US rules as the US car manufactures?

The Big Three and the UAW have priced themselves out of the market. (We should study the US auto industry to determine what the hell went wrong! How did they blow it that bad?) The wages paid to UAW members are just incredible. With my Masters Degree, I wish I could make what an UAW member makes. Also, I wish I had the same benefits. These people earn a very high income.
The Big Three were also complete idiots for agreeing to the terms of these labor agreements. You can’t stay in business if you are paying your employees higher wages and much better benefits than your competitors. Eventually, it’ll catch up to you.
I own a Toyota Corolla because for the money, it is one of the best cars you can own. My next car will either be a Toyota or a Honda. I depend on my car for transportation and I need a car that is very reliable. (Toyota’s cost more, but you need to pay for quality.)
The Big Three and the UAW just keep losing. It’s really sad that they can’t figure out how to make money in this business. It’s not hard. Study everything that Toyota and Honda are doing.
Toyota and Honda employees receive high salaries and great benefits, but it isn’t nearly as good as what UAW members earn. But at least Toyota and Honda employees have job security. (The Big Three are all headed for bankruptcy.)
Honda and Toyota employees are not in a union. There factories are in right to work states, which are not friendly to unions.
Honda and Toyota follow all US rules and laws. There isn’t a law that requires employers to make their employees join a union and pay wages to employees that they could never earn in the “real world.”
Good question.
